| 西武新宿線・田無駅から徒歩約十分。新青梅街道と所沢街道の交差するあたりに農場の入り口はある。週日しか公開されていない。/
A ten muinute walk takes you to the farm from Tanashi Station of
Seibu Shinjyku Line of Tokyo; it's near a junction of Shin-Oke Kaidou
and Tokorozawa Kaido. The farm is open to the public on weekdays. |

| ここは、全国に散らばる東京大学所属施設の一つ。/ This farm belongs to
University of Tokyo; one of the numerous institutions of the university
located in all over Japan. |

| 門を入るとまず桜並木が続く。花の頃はさぞみごとだろう。/ Right inside of the
gate, you find enormous cherry trees. Just imagine them in full
bloom! |

| 門の脇にある古びた建物。ペンキのはげ具合がなんとも。総じてこの農園内の建物にはあまり人の気配が感じられない。/
An old fashioned house beside the main gate. Paint of the wall is
fading. Overall buildings in this farm are old and look isolated. |

| よく耕された畑が広がる。周囲に街の建物が見えるのは郊外とはいえ、どこへ行っても東京の宿命。/Well
cultivated patches of land spread. You see buildings at the brims
of the scene wherever you may go, which is inevitable in Tokyo. |

| 桜並木の下にはくちばしの黄色い黒鳥が群れていた。ムクドリ？/ Under cherry trees
are black birds with yellow beaks, What are they? Starlings? |

| 梅雨時の晴れ間、ほこほこした土に青い草。/ A sunny day in the rainy
season. Fresh grasses on the rich earth. |

| 広がる空の広さに見とれていた。樹木の影も深い。立て込んだ都心から抜け出してきたばかりの目には何とも新鮮。/
The sky is huge here to the eys of the one who has just run out
of the urbane crowd |

as I walk into the depth of the thick wood. |

| 実験農場だから当然なのだが、所々にこのような標識と園内地図が立っている。/ This is
a farm attached to an academic institution; therefore, plates and
maps to indicate what's growing here and there. |

| 強い日差しを示す影の濃さ。/ The darkness of shadow proves the
strong sunwhine of the day. |

| 茫漠と広がる果てに街の気配。/ An idle filed which is surrounded
with the neighboring buildings. |

| 路傍の草々にも目を引かれる。/ Attractive grasses along the lane |

| 学生の実習準備室でしょうか。草深い。/ The laboratory for students?
The houses are in the grass. |

| こちらは学生宿舎か。古い木造に屋外の洗濯機とエアコンがアンバランスな魅力。平日の午後だからか、ひっそり閑。/
A lodging house for students? Washing machines and the air conditioner
outside are somewhat out of place. No students are around. |

| びっしりと蔦の絡まる木の幹。/ A Trunk entangled with ivy. |
|
| 「飼料作物圃場」の看板。このあたりから牧場の趣。/ The plate says "Farm
for Feeding Stuff." |

| ポプラだ。ポプラが見たくて来た。/ Poplars! I've come here to see
them. |

| ポプラの梢に初夏の空。/ The summit of a popular against the
early summery sky. |

| 遠近法の「消失点」という語句を思い浮かべ。/ The scene reminds me of
a phrase "the vanishing point" in perspective. |

|
| 二頭並んで気持ちよさげに。/ A pair of cows relaxing in grasses. |

| 艶やかな牛の背中は、たっぷりどっしり。/ The huge shyny backs of cows. |
