菊坂下道をブラブラ歩いていたら、「まちのえき」がありました。「えき」というか、お休み処。風通しが良くて、竹の長椅子が並べてあって、おみやげ物など売っている。散歩する人が寄ったり、地元の人が集まったり。ここはNPOが運営する、まちのプラットフォームなのだとか。（写っているのは理事長さんです。）

When I was walking down the lower lane of Kikuzaka, Hongo, I found "A Platform of Kikuzaka." It was an open space for walkers to take a brief stop, inhabitants of the area to get together, and to exchange info. They are selling souvenirs of Kikuzaka. The person in this photo is the manager of NPO which runs this place.

おみやげいろいろ。絵はがき、宮沢賢治の絵かるた、一葉さんのお札せんべい、一葉さんの清酒、などなど。『谷根千』バックナンバー、一葉の生涯特集号もありました。「売り上げは、家賃くらいにはなります」と理事長さん。

Several kinds of souvenirs: picture postcards, card-game based on Miyazawa Kenji's stories, cookies shaped like bills on which Higuchi Ichiyo is printed, sake with the name of Ichiyo. A backnumber of "Yanesen," a mini town-info magazinem especially featureing Ichiyo's life is on the table too,

こちらのNPOでは、国内の余所の地域や海外とも交流を持ち、最近はマレーシアで公園の研究シンポジウムへ参加してきたそうです。マレーシアの写真や工芸品なども並んでいます。もうすぐ「菊坂ハロウィーン」なので、パンプキンが飾ってありました。

This NPO is working with other towns of Japan and also of foreign countries. Recently they visited Malaysia to attend an international conference on parks. There are crafts and goods from Malaysia. The pumpkin lantern in the corner is for "Kiauzaka Halloween," which is coming very soon..

マレーシアの工芸品、布地です。壁に飾ってあるのでいすが、スッキリときれいです。菊坂とアジアの相性はとても良いようです。それもそのはず、ここはアジアの路地だもの。

The two pieces of cloth on the wall are Malaysian craft. They are decorated very nicely. Asian godds fit in this alley quite well. No doubt, this alley is in Asia!

マレーシアのクラフトが詰まった棚。色味が、この路地によく似合う。インテリアに細竹のすだれがぐるっと回してあるからなのでしょう。これは夏仕様？もしかすると冬になれば戸を立てて、中ではストーブが暖かく炉端を作るのではないでしょうか。

Malaysian crafts are laid out on a wooden chest. Their colors go very well with the atmosphere of this alley. Bamboo screens are decorating the room in a friendly way. They all make us feel at home. I imagine a stove will be placed in the middle of this room in the winter to welcome freezing visitors.
