平城宮跡 広大な「再建現場」
これまで殆ど出かけたことのない関西地方へ、分けても奈良へ行ってみようと思った。COVID-19の蔓延で、国内と言えど移動がままならなかった2年半余りの時を経て、ようやく自由に「旅」が出来るようになってきた。有名観光地にもかかわらず未だ海外からの旅行者は殆ど見かけない。混雑もないゆったりした、家族との旅だった。
私は中学・高校の修学旅行の時以来足を踏み入れるのは初めてで、ろくに歴史の勉強もしていない自分が古都奈良へ行ってどうするのかと怖気づくところがあった。だが、行ってみれば奈良は広く深く遥かな場所であった。一度や二度行っただけで分かること・見えるものはほんの僅かだろう。奈良へはおそらく繰り返し行くことで少しずつ学べるものがあるのではないか。そんな気のする第一回目の奈良旅行となった。
Kansai Area (the western part of Japan) is the destination I seldom go. Particularly to Nara, I hadn't been since when I was a junior high school student more than half a century before. Due to COVID-19 we were requested not to travel widely in and out of Japan for 2 and a half years; now that the restriction is no longer effective, we can almost freely go wherever we want to. With little knowledge of the history, culture, and geography of the place, I was a little hesitant to visit Nara; however, it was a huge, deep and generous place to accept travelers. Perhaps, by repetition, Nara would reveal its secret to the learners. I have started visiting the ancient city. This is the first step of our family trip in Nara.

近鉄奈良線「新大宮駅」に近い奈良ロイヤルホテルから平城宮跡を目指す。カンカン照りの午後だった。/ Starting from Nara Royal Hotel near Shin-Ohmiya Station of Kintetus Nara Line Railway, we walked to the historical site of Heijyou-kyu Palace. It was a sunny afternoon.
畑の脇を抜け、裏路地を通り、北西へ。
Beside the farming area and narrow back alleys, we walked to north-west.
近くには、法華寺や海龍寺がある。
A signboard shows the nearby temples and a shrine.
目の前が開け、広々とした平城宮跡を擁する草地に出た。
We found ourselves suddenly in front of a huge grass field holding the historical site of Heijyou-kyu Palace.
奈良は盆地だと聞いているが西端の山並みは遠い。/ Geographically Nara is a basin, but surrounding mountains seem to be far from here.
久しぶりで青々とした広野に出たので、それだけで気分爽快だった。/ I was already refreshed to be in the middle of the grass field.
四つ角に「平城宮跡」の標識が立っている。 / By a cross road was a signboard indicating the way to the ancient palace.
目指す宮殿はまだ見えない。/ The palace couldn't be seen yet.
遠くに、ポツリと見えるのが宮殿か。/ Over there was the palace!
土塀が現れた。/ A clay wall was there.
漸く姿を現し始めた甍 / We were approaching the roof of the palace.
ここからは第二次大極殿へ至る道 / This is the way into the site of Heijyou-kyu Palace historical site
