すみかはおがわ
もりのみずうみ
しずかないけや

どこにあるのか
そんなところは
どうようのなか
ものがたりかな

それでもはるだ
めだかのうたを

Medaka

How old are you,
My dear medaka?

Large eyes you have
Children of the fish

No, not children
But they're grownups
Don't be surprised
You'll see spawning

Medaka like to make lines
Nobody knows the reason
Are there anyone who bids
To go on lines?

Medaka live in brooks
In lakes in woods,
In quiet ponds and
Clean rivers

Where can you find
Such fabulous places
But in nursery rhymes
And in your dreams?

Never mind, it's spring
Don't you feel like
Singing songs of medaka?
My heart leaps up!

In a glass bowl
Put the waterweed
You'll make the world,
A round cosmos for medaka

The water surface ripples
It's the transparent sea
Medaka swim
They are perfect fish

People are dreaming
Of spring brooks
Medaka are gentle enough to
Live with them

How many medaka are there?
Ten of them are swimming
Let them go together
Boud for the Milky Way!
