The statue of William Gilbert Rees (1827-1898) The plaque says,"Explorer, Runholder, and First European Settler."/ この地へのヨーロッパ人として最初の入植者であるWilliam Gilbert Rees (1827-1898)の銅像。羊と一緒なのがいい。

The pier of Lake Wakatipu with various kinds of boats. Mainly for sightseeing and water sports. / ワカティプ湖の桟橋。観光船、水上スポーツ用を中心とする色々な船舶が係留されている。
The main pier. On the right there is the entrance into Underwater World, an observatory of the lake bottom where you can see various fish swarming. / メインピア。右手に「水中展望室」への入口がある。
In the underwater observatory, you can watch a crowd of salmons swimming. / 水中展望室からは湖底を泳ぐ鮭の群れなどを観察できる。
A view from the lakeside. Clouds are drifting over the mountains. / 湖畔から沖を眺める。雲が山の上を流れていく。
You can have a look at the Earnslow, a funneled steamer./ 右手奥に煙突のついた蒸気船アーンスロー号が見える。
The green mountain behind is Bob's Hill. / 背後の緑の山はボブズヒル。

Weekend Morning Market by residents of Queenstown. / クイーンズタウンの人々による週末朝市。
We found variety of shops at the Weekend Market by the lake./ いろいろなものが売られている朝市。
It was q uite chilly early in the morning but many tourists were strolling in the Market./ 早朝はかなり冷えたが、大勢の観光客が朝市をぶらついていた。
Hand-made crafts were sold here and there. / 手作りの品があちこちで売られている。
Not only the steamboat but also "jetboat" is very popular in the lake. You can see posters both in English and Chinese. / 蒸気船だけではなく、ジェットボートも湖の人気船。英語と中国語のポスターが並び立つ。
Passengers were gradually gathering on the pier of the Earnslow. / アーンスロー号の停泊する桟橋に乗客が集まり始めた。
When it's sunny the color of the lake is amazingly blue and the green trees around it are so attractive. / 晴れると湖は驚くべき青さとなり、囲む木々の緑も素晴らしい。
Right after the Earnslow set sail; you can see Bob's Hill behind the town. / アーンスロー号出航直後に、街の背後にそびえるボブズヒルを望む。
You can see a remarkable contrast between the green hills in front and the gray rocky mountains in the back. / 手前の緑の丘陵と背後の灰色の山脈とのコントラストが面白い。
As the ship sails on, you can seevariety of mountains surrounding the lake. / 船が進むにつれて多様な山々が湖を囲んでいる様子が眺められる。
Green mountains partly covered with clouds. / 所々に雲のかかる緑の山々。
Along the opposite side of the lake, there are bleak mountains. / 対岸の山々は荒涼とした色。
Higfh mountains far beyond are mostly covered with snow. / 奥にそびえる高い山々の頂はかなり雪に覆われている。
I took a photo of the mountians in close-up. / 山々をクローズアップで撮ってみた。
The Earnslow sailed up tot the farm, where many of the passengers got off and enjoyed staying and dining there. (We did not.) /アーンスロー号は湖岸の牧場まで行ってお客を下ろす。牧場で遊んだり食事したりする人々が多い。（私たちは降りなかった。）
A charming combination of green hills and red-roofed farmhouses. Like a scene in a picture book! / 緑の丘と赤い屋根の牧場の建物がまるで絵本の中の風景のように魅力的。
Certainly you could go on sailing beyond the cove, but the Earnslow returned to Queenstown form this farm pier. / もちろんこの先にも船を進めることはできるが、アーンスロー号はこの牧場からクイーンズタウンへ戻った。

Inside of the ship you can observe the boiler of the steamer. / 船内でボイラーの様子を見ることもできる。
Because it's a steamership, you can see smoke coming out of the funnel. / 蒸気船の煙突から黒煙が上がる。
The beauty of the surrounding mountains were beyond words. / 沿岸の山々の美しさは格別だった。

I wasa very much attracted to the snow covered peaks. / 雪をかぶった山に惹きつけられる。
"Mountains and mountains beside the lake. It's really a lake in the South Island of New Zealand!" I kept saying to myself. / 「湖を取り巻く山また山。ここは本当にニュージーランドの南島！」と私は自分に言い聞かせていた。
Lake Wakatipu is huge. In a country of lakes and mountains, I was really fascinated with this lake. / ワカティプ湖は実に大きい。（広くて長い）湖と山の国にいて、私はこの湖に心底魅了された。
A motor boat went through in an amazing speed! / モーターボートがすごいスピードで通り過ぎた。
We were coming back to the Queenstown pier very soon. / もう間もなくクイーンズタウン桟橋に戻る。
Buildings along the shore of the lake were very neat. / 湖の岸辺に建つ瀟洒な建物。
Passengers waiting for getting off the boat. It was a good voyage! / 下船の順番を待つ乗客。とても良い船旅だった。

The Earnslow observed from the pier. Passengers were waiting for the next voyage. / 桟橋に停泊するアーンスロー号。乗客が次の出航を待っている。
At noon, it got quite warm. Gentle light of the sun was shining over the lake. /昼時分となり、だいぶ暖かくなった。太陽の柔らかな光が湖を照らす。
The pier at lunch time. People were eating outside of restaurants. / お昼時の桟橋。お客はレストランの外で食事する。
Fashionable shops and restaurants were along this lane near the pier. /桟橋の近く、 おしゃれな店やレストランの並ぶ通り。
Tourisits looking for a restaurant to have lunch, reading menu. / メニューを見ながら、昼食をとるレストランを探している旅行客。
We walked on to find a place for our lunch. It was a beautiful afternoon. / 私たちも食事処を探しに歩いていく。美しい午後だった。
